Harry P. Symons Gretchen Everhart School
Harry Symons is a tremendous support to Gretchen Everhart School. He is always thinking about what is best for Everhart and seeking to have his organization, the Tallahassee Elks Lodge #937, participate in those goals.
In 2005 Mr. Symons was part of a group of Elks that conceived the idea of a family camp experience for students with special needs to be held at the Florida Elks Youth Camp in Umatilla, Florida. For six years now dozens of kids with special needs and their families have benefited from “Camp Read-a-Lot”. He always attends the fundraisers that are paramount for the ongoing effort to fund the camp.
Although Mr. Symons has a quiet personality, Harry is “Big” when it comes to helping. This year Harry even spent some time as Santa’s elf. He and a group of his Elk friends came to Everhart and handed out gifts to our students.
His constant encouragement and support makes him a true friend and an outstanding volunteer. Harry is dedicated to Gretchen Everhart School visiting the school many times and working with many projects.
Congratulations Harry, a job well done.

Elks Drug Awareness Program
The Elks Drug Awareness
Program has once again teamed with Marvel Entertainment and the federal
government's Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to
bring you the Hard Choices comic book, featuring Marvel Super Heroes -
Spiderman and the Fantastic Four and Elroy the Elk in a battle against
underage drinking!
Hard Choices is designed to
educate fourth- through eighth-graders about the perils of underage
drinking. In October 2007, almost 800,000 comic books were sent to select
elementary and middle schools in Elks communities across the nation. This
year, the comic is available online in digital format! If you have children or
grandchildren that fit this category, or if you are a teacher, please visit:
